Your face card may be a self-portrait, another nationality, a personified animal … be creative.

Step 1

Think of some symbols or ideas that would represent YOU!

Some samples might be things like: weather symbols, yin-yang, male/female, peace sign, recycle… or you can just GOOGLE SYMBOLS!

On 11 x 17 Card Stock (Ask Mr. Johnson) design a face card modeled after the traditional English Playing cards.
Your face card may be a self-portrait, another nationality, a personified (exaggerated, cartoon or human-like) animal … be creative!

Use pencil first, to outline your ideas, then anything else you would like to color them in! Sharpies, Colored Pencils, Crayons, etc.

Here are some things to think about:

Rotational symmetry (mirror image)
Center of design (fits flip side)
Symbol for suit
Symbols of royalty or power
Artist’s Personal tie-in

Here are a few more student samples. Use as idea generators, but be creative and have fun!
